Getting Started
How does SadhanaLock work?
SadhanaLock helps you build mindful phone habits by requiring spiritual or reflective engagement before accessing distracting apps. You select which apps to lock, set a schedule, and then complete an unlock activity (reading a scripture passage, answering a quiz, meditating, etc.) each time you want to use those apps.
How do I grant Screen Time permissions?
When you first open the App, you will be prompted to allow Screen Time access:
- Tap "Allow" when the Screen Time permission dialog appears.
- If prompted, authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID, or your device passcode.
- The App will then be able to manage access to your selected apps.
If you accidentally denied the permission:
- Open Settings on your device.
- Go to Screen Time > Lock Screen Content & Privacy.
- Ensure the app has the appropriate access.
Note: Screen Time permissions are managed by iOS. The app never sees your usage data — it only requests iOS to lock and unlock specific apps on your behalf.
Managing Locked Apps
How do I choose which apps to lock?
- Open the App and go to the Home screen.
- Tap the "Select Apps" or lock icon button.
- Browse or search for apps you want to lock.
- Tap an app to add it to your locked list.
- Tap "Done" to confirm your selection.
How do I remove an app from the locked list?
- Go to the Home screen.
- Tap the "Select Apps" or lock icon button.
- Tap a currently locked app to deselect it.
- Tap "Done" to save your changes.
Can I lock all social media apps at once?
Yes. When selecting apps, you can choose entire categories (like Social Media) rather than picking individual apps.
Schedules
How do I set a lock schedule?
- Go to Settings > Schedule.
- Tap "Add Schedule" to create a new schedule.
- Choose the days and time range when locking should be active.
- Select which apps or categories to lock during this schedule.
- Tap "Save".
Can I have multiple schedules?
Yes. You can create multiple schedules for different times and days. For example:
- Weekday mornings (6 AM - 9 AM)
- Evenings (8 PM - 10 PM)
- All day on weekends
How do I edit or delete a schedule?
- Go to Settings > Schedule.
- Tap an existing schedule to edit it.
- To delete, swipe left on the schedule and tap "Delete".
Unlocking Apps
What are the different unlock methods?
The app offers several ways to engage before unlocking:

What if I can't complete the unlock challenge?
Each unlock screen provides a passage or activity appropriate to your selected difficulty. If you find challenges too difficult, you can adjust the difficulty level in Settings > Content Preferences.
Can I bypass the lock in an emergency?
If you need to access a locked app urgently, you can go to your device's Settings > Screen Time to temporarily modify restrictions. The app does not prevent you from managing Screen Time settings directly.
Subscriptions and Purchases
What features are free?
The free version includes:
- Basic app locking with Scripture Reading unlock
- One active schedule
- A curated selection of passages
What does Premium include?
Premium unlocks:
- All four unlock methods
- Unlimited schedules
- Full scripture/content library
- Offline access to all content
- No advertisements
How do I restore a previous purchase?
- Open the App.
- Go to Settings > Subscription.
- Tap "Restore Purchases".
- Your subscription will be verified with the App Store and restored.
If restoration doesn't work:
- Make sure you are signed in with the same Apple ID used for the original purchase.
- Check that your subscription is still active in Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions.
- Restart the App and try again.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Subscriptions are managed through the Apple App Store:
- Open Settings on your device.
- Tap your name (Apple ID) at the top.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Find your SadhanaLock subscription and tap it.
- Tap Cancel Subscription.
You will retain Premium access until the end of your current billing period.
Note: We cannot cancel subscriptions on your behalf. All billing is handled by Apple.
I was charged but don't have Premium access
- First, try Restore Purchases (see above).
- If that doesn't work, restart the App.
- If the issue persists, contact us at [email protected] and include your Apple ID email and approximate purchase date.
Privacy and Data
Does the app track my usage?
No. The app uses Apple's Screen Time APIs to lock and unlock apps, but we never see or record which apps you use or how often you use them. All Screen Time data stays within iOS.
Where is my data stored?
All your data (settings, reading history, schedules) is stored locally on your device only. We do not have servers that store your data. Uninstalling the App deletes all data.
Can I export my data?
Reading history and settings are stored locally on your device. There is currently no export feature, but this is planned for a future update.

Troubleshooting
The App is not blocking apps as expected
- Check Screen Time permissions: Go to device Settings > Screen Time and verify the App has access.
- Check your schedule: Make sure the current time falls within an active schedule.
- Restart the App: Close and reopen the App.
- Restart your device: Some Screen Time changes require a device restart to take effect.
- Reinstall the App: If issues persist, delete and reinstall the App (note: this will reset your settings).
The App crashes on launch
- Make sure your device is running iOS 16 or later.
- Restart your device.
- Delete and reinstall the App from the App Store.
- If the issue continues, contact us with your device model and iOS version.
Notifications are not working
- Go to device Settings > Notifications.
- Find the App and ensure notifications are enabled.
- Check that Do Not Disturb or a Focus mode is not blocking notifications.
